My name is Iona Hindes and I am 21 years old. I am English and Swiss, and am currently at the University in Durham in England studying Anthropology.
As a child we moved countries a number of times. I was born in France, and grew up there and in North America for a few years before moving to Switzerland. Zurich has been our home for 17 years, until this summer when we moved to Geneva. I began skiing at the age of 4 when living in North America. At the age of 5 my family moved to Switzerland. I have lived in Switzerland for 17 years now, and have been very lucky to get to ski every winter since.
I always loved skiing and every winter I am itching to get out to the slopes. I skied competitively in my school ski team for a few years when I was about 14 years old. My personal favorites were always grand slalom races. My older sister was a fantastic racer and I always attended races with her, so I was exposed to the competitive environment of downhill racing from a young age.
However after a few years of racing I realized I wasn’t very competitive at all and my attention moved to off-piste and powder skiing. After having tried a few guided tours with my parents I was addicted. Now I love exploring untouched areas of the mountain and am aiming at further developing my powder and touring skiing. I love to teach friends whenever I get the chance and to pass on my passion for such a great, exciting sport.
